Jeremiah was a prophet in the Old Testament who was given his mission by God when he was just twenty-two. As many of us may have, he initially balked. I’m sure he wasn’t very excited about being a “holy roller” in a society that did not want to hear what God wanted him to say. He thought he was too young anyway to do such a task, call the leaders of the day to reform according to the Word of the Lord. Like us, Jeremiah has his view of the world, of religion and his own plans for himself. Why would he want to do something that he didn’t want to do, that would make him unhappy?
These thoughts and reactions of Jeremiah are common to us all. Much of these are based on misunderstandings of the Church, Church teaching and our relationship with the Divine. We each have gift and talents unique to us. We all have a calling to live a life utilizing these gifts and talents. What we may sometimes forget is that God is part of daily life,
whether we are in Church, reading scripture, and praying or at work, reading spreadsheets and meeting with clients or at the Gym, working out and talking about last night’s game with others.
Jeremiah's Journey is a ministry to college students and other young adults (those us who are the same age as Jeremiah) to help us hear the word of God wherever we may be, at Church, at play or at work. Like Jeremiah, we seek to grow in trust of God and to draw strength with the knowledge of his presence that allows us to remain faithful to the Faith in the day to day of life.
